About Melanie
Me in 1994Flash back to 1994: I was 40 pounds heavier, ate whatever I craved in large quantities, and exercised only when trudging up the stairs at my apartment. I slept poorly, suffering low self-esteem and very high cholesterol.
Fast forward to today: I genuinely enjoy eating nutritious food in reasonable portions, and I enthusiastically look for opportunities to physically challenge myself. (I recently achieved my first degree black belt in Southern Shaolin Tiger-Crane Kung Fu.) My cholesterol remains low and my self-esteem high.
I achieved all of this without diet pills, fad diets, expensive exercise equipment, or surgery, and I have maintained my present weight and healthy lifestyle for seven years.

COACH
I am Melanie Lane, MD CPCC, President and Founder of Dr. Lane, Healthy Living Coach and ZING! Empowerment Coaching, where I coach people struggling to achieve better health. I educate, inspire, and empower my clients to design and actually integrate a healthy, fulfilling, enjoyable lifestyle.
I am a board-certified Family Physician who left clinical practice in 2009 to pursue my passion for empowering others to lead freer, fuller, more thrilling lives. I favor promoting wellness over treating illness. My career in coaching blossomed from the belief that a wise, healthy self already thrives within each of us and that we can lead long, healthy, meaningful lives when we set the wisdom of that healthy self free.
I received my Professional Co-Active Coach Certification from the prestigious Coaches Training Institute in San Rafael, CA in July of 2010.
My clients, both local and national, come from a variety of backgrounds. Some seek my expertise to achieve greater physical fitness and lose just a few pounds, while others grapple with the life threatening illnesses that result from lifelong morbid obesity. PERSON IN AWE OF THE UNIVERSE
When I am not coaching, I enjoy hiking and walking half marathons with my mother; I aspire to be just like my Mommy when I grow up. What currently thrills me is training Kung Fu, Qigong, and Tai Chi. I love traveling every summer with my daughter and husband to invade his family home in Norway, where we marvel at the majesty of the fjords and the absurdity of a $13.00 Whopper with Cheese. I think kung fu and fire poi spinning are the coolest hobbies on the planet, and I strongly believe that life is too short for sipping weak coffee.
